about

This is a song I wrote after binging history channel documentaries about the flood of 1889 in Johnstown, PA. It amazed me that if people had just paid attention, not cared about fancy country clubs, cared about other groups of people, or even just listened to nature and people that knew what they were talking about, that thousands of lives could've been saved. It's going to be on a collection of bluegrass, acoustic, and folk and singer-songwriter songs called Inland, which will be continuously released.

lyrics

Out in the valley where the Connemaugh bends

Steel mill work ain’t got no end

Clouds of smoke fill up the air

Black-coated ground ain’t got no care

The rising tide it swelled and grew

What was to come no one knew

The rich had lied, and the poor would cry

As black clouds float into the sky

If the raven’s call wasn’t heard,

And the silence fell into the night

The dam would burst

And the river would ignite

In ’89 the rain came down

Stole the peace of a quiet town

You see the proof is in the flood

That everything returns to mud

But the raven’s call wasn’t heard

And the silence fell into the night

And when the dam burst

The river began to ignite

When the raven’s call wasn’t heard

And the silence fell into the night

Vision might’ve been blurred,

But it’s always clear in hindsight
